Star Wars in Concert for Metro Edmonton

Working freelance for Metro is such a thrill, even on a Sunday afternoon. Getting the chance to shoot Star Wars in Concert may not sound exciting to some of you, but to me ( the closet nerd) it's a little piece of heaven. Composed by John Williams, the music is riveting and the clips of videos made it even more entertaining. Props from the movies abounded Rexall, but my favorite moment was coming up from shooting and seeing R2D2 just hanging out in a back hall. My friend asked jokingly if he gave me a flirty beep, but he was motionless. Even though he was just a silent prop, my imagination gets the better of me and goes off into an adventure where I roam the halls of Rexall with R2D2 at my side. And now that I have exposed my ultra nerdy side I have to say it was a great moment to see Anthony Daniels, the actor who played C-3PO step back into his role for a moment on stage. All in all, a great performance and a wonderful afternoon.

Tom Petty for Metro Edmonton

I feel super lucky that I got the gig shooting for Metro Edmonton, especially on days when I get to shoot acts like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.  It was really cool to hear the old-school hits I heard as a kid in concert from the front row. Tom looks fantastic and his band looked as though they were having a great time. Some music just keeps living on, no matter how long its been around....

Nickelback

Working for Metro has been great! I've had the chance to shoot some stars, which always looks good in the portfolio. Nickelback had a loud beginning, a loud middle, and maybe a loud end. I'm not sure since I don't get to stick around, but I can hear faint sounds as I file from a room around the corner. As I frantically edit the choice images, the sweet inebriated public walk by and the whole process is really fun. Meeting the photographers from the other papers is cool because sometimes they will share great tips to get the best shot and I always appreciate that camaraderie in the industry. On a side note, I liked the flames. They were nice.

Sessa at Meese Clothing

We have an ongoing relationship with Meese Clothing in St.Albert. Tressa makes us salivate over her newest designs while we shoot and she makes us laugh hysterically when we're finished. Their newest escapade features a giant billboard of them on the way into St.Albert looking absolutely marvelous. You NEED to check it out, and them. You won't regret it. We haven't. Yet...... Also, a side note, lovely model Nadine here IS sporting a wig, and on-purpose Groucho Marx eyebrows. Just in case you hadn't figured that out. Penny shot these just outside of Meese as the sun was setting, and even though we constatly make fun of lens flare, it's been creeping its way into our shots lately. Weird, but if we start calling it lens 'flair' you have permission to start making fun of us.

Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper

Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper were really cool to get to see, although I thought it was a sign of the times that Alice Cooper opened for Rob Zombie... Alice Cooper was super entertaining. I loved his cheesy antics and pirate sword. I especially liked the part where he 'skewered' his stage lackey with a 'mike stand'. I say this in quotations because obviously it was a stage trick engineered quite cleverly, although I saw the workings of it because I was so up close and personal. I'm okay with it. It was great. On a side note, Alice Cooper likes golfing in Edmonton. Apparently he has a semi-pro swing? Cool!
As for Rob Zombie, crazy crazy performer! In a good way, of course. I wish the lights would've been a little more conducive to shooting, but whatev's. You take what you can get.
